Bette prepares for the gallery’s new show and hires Candace, an attractive female contractor, to handle the set-up. Tina, Jenny, Shane, Alice and Dana share an eventful trip to Palm Springs.
Busy getting ready for the “Provocations” opening at the gallery, Bette sends Tina on a trip to the Dinah Shore golf tournament in Palm Springs with Dana, Alice and Shane. Sensing Jenny’s loneliness, Tina invites her to join them. After dropping of Alice’s mother, Lenore (ANNE ARCHER), they recount their “first love” stories. Tina reveals that she met Bette, the only woman she has ever been with, at the opening of a Catherine Opie exhibit.
During the course of the traditional lesbian spring break, things take an unexpected turn. Alice and Tina enjoy the party atmosphere but usually libidinous Shane remains oddly quiet while Jenny takes up with Robin (ANNE RAMSAY), an intelligent researcher, and Dana falls under the spell of Tonya, an over-the-top organizer of the event.
Bette tries to focus on preparations for the show but she is distracted by her attraction to Candace (ION OVERMAN), the construction coordinator she hired to do the set-up. When it becomes clear that the attraction is mutual, Bette realizes she is facing a crisis.
